quiet me with your love

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

(Zephaniah 3:17)

This scripture reminds me of the day I got sick in elementary school and my Aunt Geneva came to pick me up. I remember being led to her daughter’s pretty little lavender room with the fluffy lavender twin comforters.

As I tossed fretfully on top of the bed, I remember the soft swish of a blanket in the air, then warmth as it settled down, finding its resting place on my body. She expertly administered two tucks, a pat on my arm, and she was gone. Not long after, my eyes began to flutter as I felt myself drifting off to sleep. What a sweet memory – to be quieted with love…

Sometimes, I find myself tossing fretfully for answers. Needing God to speak but He seems silent. In need of a touch but I don’t feel it. I cry out to Him to strengthen and settle me in this place.

I hear, “I love you. Trust me.”

A sweet and gentle warmth envelopes me. Without even noticing how it happened, I suddenly feel safe, comfortable and quite fine, thank you.

I can lay down in peace and sleep for He alone makes me dwell in safety.

He quiets me with His love.
